Hope Credit Union is not your ordinary credit union.
Started in 1995 as a small church project with big dreams, HOPE is a community development credit union that helps low- and moderate-income people build a solid financial foundation for a better future.
The credit union grew out of a desire to foster asset development, cooperation and self-empowerment among low-income Jackson residents. HOPE also sought to promote savings and community reinvestment in distressed communities, educate youth about economics and finance, and provide greater access to financial services for its members.
In August 2002, after a long tradition of collaboration, Enterprise Corporation of the Delta (now Hope Enterprise Corporation) became the credit union’s primary sponsor. One of the nation's leading community development financial institutions, HOPE provides commercial, mortgage and community facilities loans in economically distressed areas of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. This alliance has made both organizations stronger and enabled the credit union to significantly expand its scope of products and services, and begin delivering its services to a much broader geography.
In 2005, HOPE was recognized as the fastest growing credit union in the nation for building its deposits. HOPE ranked fifth in the nation for largest increase in membership growth during 2006.
HOPE has continued to expand with recent mergers. At the end of 2008, HOPE merged with College Station Federal Community Credit Union, an organization located in College Station, Arkansas, with a 50-year history. Another 50-year-old institution, American Savings Credit Union, became part of HOPE on January 1, 2009. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, ASCU helped expand HOPE's reach across the Mid South with 17,000 additional members and five new branches. And HOPE recently joined forces with East Central Community Federal Credit Union, with branches in Louisville and Macon, Mississippi.
Since 1994 HOPE has generated more than $1.6 billion in financing and brought economic opportunities to more than 90,000 people in economically distressed areas across the Mid South. Currently serving nearly 30,000 members, HOPE continues to strengthen communities, build assets, and improve lives in economically distressed communities across the Mid South.
