The battle for consumers (and deposits) is an ongoing challenge. Deposits might be coming in, but many are too expensive and don't last.

Many institutions have grown their deposits with high-yield CDs. And while those CDs may have brought in deposit dollars, they also came with a near-unsustainable Cost Of Funds, high attrition, rate shoppers, ongoing liquidity struggles, constant repricing, and more. 

That’s phantom growth.
